Having a plan is important for successful marketing on social media. But this assumes you’re writing amazing posts that your audience wants to read, motivating them to take action.
Here are some helpful tips for writing social media posts:
Know Your Audience – If you want to write social media for a target audience, you need to understand who you’re talking to and why they’d want to hear from you.
What is their age? Where do they live? Where do they work? What do they enjoy doing?
Know Your Voice – Should you use humor and speak informally? Should you be direct and transparent? By learning about your audience, you will create content they’ll want to like, share, and respond to calls to action.
Know Your Brand – Each brand has its own personality. For example, car brands. What’s the difference in the marketing voice of Ford versus BMW? And for cereal brands, what is the difference invoice from Cap’n Crunch verses Grape Nuts?
Stay Positive – Avoid toxic content and a negative tone. Also, avoid attacking or criticizing. Don’t engage with trolls and adverse comments. These posts can be hidden on Facebook and Instagram. Additionally, you can hide malicious comments on Twitter. If someone offers a criticism, thank them for their input, demonstrate where your company is taking action, and offer them your help in a private message.
Write Short, Concise Content – Whether on phones or laptops, people scan social media. Hence, it is important to keep your content short, to the point, and engaging. This is a huge challenge in social media marketing.
And this is where knowing your audience makes a difference.
Write less than five sentences. Use those emojis and employ lists when applicable.
Images and Video are Essential – Assume your audience ignores any content without either. So, ensure they’re crafted to grab your viewers.
If you don’t have a graphic designer, make sure that they’re reviewed by others you trust. Then, listen to comments and suggestions. Use them to tell stories when possible and optimize each for every platform posted on.
Always Use Call to Actions (CTA) – Don’t forget your Call To Actions! They can be as simple as asking a question or to click a link. Also, each CTA should be short, less than five words. Keep your tone positive. CTAs should be fun and filled with motivating language.
Know Your Competitors – Identify similar brands on social sites. Consider their success. How many followers do they have? How much engagement do their posts get? What kinds of images/videos do they employ?
Be Unique – Develop a plan to make your words/images/videos sound different. How is your brand different from competitors?
Promote – Regular promotions help viewers remain attentive and engaged. Invite them to share your page and posts for special offers and employ contests to generate excitement.
